This is focused on the viewers who prefer the older, more “retro” video games, it’s a lot harder to find the games we've been meaning to play. Building your game collection isn't all that easy, but here is a quick rundown of how to collect the classic games you remember!
First and foremost know which games you want to collect. Anything Nintendo related, or any popular franchise for that matter (Sonic the Hedgehog, Ratchet and Clank, etc.) has generally been re-released multiple times on many different consoles. Before you start doing thorough searches through the internet, look to see if the games have been ported into a collection, the Super Mario All Stars pack for Nintendo Wii has not only Super Mario World, but all the NES Super Mario titles. This is much cheaper than getting them in cartridge form individually.
If your gaming memories include generally more rare games, your first step is eBay. Tons and tons of video games have postings on there, and chances are you can find that classic game you remember! Depending on the rarity be prepared to shell out some cash, but you can save money by not getting the case or instruction manual with the game.
The only other alternative is retro game stores, they are few and far between, but they’re generally well-priced, and have a nice selection. Do your Google searches, and see if there is one near you. In Toronto there is A&C Games on Spadina for example. What games are you looking for?
Happy hunting!
